What Are AI Voice Messages?

AI voice messages are automatically generated audio recordings that:

  • Mimic your voice (via voice cloning)

  • Read a dynamic script with personalized variables (e.g., {{firstName}}, {{companyName}})

  • Are integrated into lemlist sequences

  • Are sent through LinkedIn

Step 1: Clone Your Voice

Open your campaign and add an AI Voice message step

  1. Go to Campaigns, then open the campaign you want to edit

  2. In the Sequence builder, click Add step, then select AI Voice message

Step 2: Create a Personalized Voice Message

Write your message with variables

Write a short, natural-sounding message like you'd leave a voicemail.

Use variables to personalize:

  • {{firstName}}

  • {{companyName}}

  • {{jobTitle}}

⚠️ Variables containing URLs are not supported. AI voice notes cannot propagate any custom variable whose value is a URL — those will not be read aloud. Use text-based variables only (e.g. {{firstName}}, {{companyName}}, {{jobTitle}}).

Example template:

Hey {{firstName}}, I came across your profile and really liked what you're working on.
I’d love to connect and see if there’s a way to collaborate.

You can also choose a lead from Preview voice for to test how the message sounds with personalization Previewing is free, with a limit of 15 per day.

Optional: assign a specific sender

If needed, set a dedicated LinkedIn sender for this step using Sender assignment. Voice notes must be sent from a specific sender.

Fix: Edit your message text to match your natural speaking style. Use contractions ("I'm" not "I am"), add commas for pauses, and simplify complex sentences.

Issue: Voice message not sending
Fix: Verify your LinkedIn account is connected in lemlist Settings → Integrations → LinkedIn. Ensure the lead has a valid LinkedIn URL.

Issue: You've reached the daily voice-message limit

Optimization Tips

Managing Multiple Voice Clones:

  • Name your cloned voices clearly for easy identification.

  • Periodically review and remove unused voices to maintain organization.

  • Test different voices for various messaging tones and campaigns.

Record in a quiet space: Background noise degrades clone quality. Use a quiet room and a decent microphone.

Keep messages short: Short voice messages usually get better engagement than long ones.

Personalize with variables: Always use {{firstName}} and {{companyName}} to make messages feel tailored.

Test on yourself first: Preview the voice message on a test lead before launching to prospects.

A/B test tones: Try friendly vs. direct vs. playful messaging to see what resonates best with your audience.

Combine with other steps: Use voice messages strategically, such as after a LinkedIn connection is accepted or as a follow-up to an email.
