Learning Objective
By the end of this tutorial, you’ll know how to install the lemlist Chrome extension, complete the initial setup, and connect it to the LinkedIn account you want to use with lemlist.
Why This Matters
Installing and connecting the extension is what makes lemlist available directly inside LinkedIn, so you can work without constantly switching tabs or copying information by hand. Taking a few minutes to set it up correctly also helps prevent connection issues later, especially if you use LinkedIn regularly as part of your workflow.
Prerequisites
You should already be using Google Chrome.
You should already be logged into the lemlist workspace you want to use.
You should already be logged into the LinkedIn account you want to connect.
Note: The extension works inside LinkedIn and Sales Navigator. It does not work with LinkedIn Recruiter or from a LinkedIn event page.
Core Lesson — Step-by-Step Workflow
Phase 1: Install the lemlist Chrome extension
Open the lemlist extension page in the Chrome Web Store and install it. Click Add to Chrome to add the extension to your browser. This installs the extension so it can appear directly inside supported pages like LinkedIn.
Complete the first welcome screen. Once the installation finishes, the extension opens a welcome page. Click Get started to continue the setup and confirm you want to use lemlist inside LinkedIn.
At this point, the extension is installed in Chrome, but you still need to open it inside LinkedIn and link the right account before you can use it properly.
📽️ Here is a quick video guide on installing and using the extension:
Phase 2: Open the extension inside LinkedIn
Go to LinkedIn and launch the extension. Open any LinkedIn page, then click the lemlist extension icon on the right side of the screen. This opens the lemlist sidebar, where you connect your current LinkedIn session to your lemlist account.
If you don’t see the sidebar right away, refresh the LinkedIn page and try again. The extension needs to be opened from within LinkedIn so it can detect the correct LinkedIn profile.
Phase 3: Connect your LinkedIn account to lemlist
Check the LinkedIn profile detected by the extension. In the sidebar, lemlist shows the Current LinkedIn account connected and the Current lemlist account connected. This is an important check because it confirms which LinkedIn profile and which lemlist workspace you’re about to connect.
Refresh the LinkedIn profile if needed, then link the account. If the extension does not show the right LinkedIn profile, click Refresh profile. Once the correct profile appears, click Link this account. This creates the connection between your active LinkedIn session and your lemlist account.
Good to know: The email address you use for lemlist does not need to match the email address you use for LinkedIn. What matters is that you link the correct active LinkedIn session to the right lemlist account.
Phase 4: Confirm the setup is ready
After linking, keep the extension available while you browse LinkedIn. If the sidebar opens normally and recognizes your connected account, the setup is complete and the extension is ready to use from LinkedIn.
This final check matters because most setup issues happen when the extension is installed successfully but the LinkedIn account was never actually linked.
Practical Application / Real-Life Example
A common setup flow looks like this: you install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, complete the welcome screen, open LinkedIn, and then connect the LinkedIn profile you’re currently logged into. Once that connection is done, the extension is ready whenever you open LinkedIn again in the same Chrome profile.
This is especially useful if you work across multiple accounts or browser sessions. Taking a moment to verify the detected LinkedIn profile before clicking Link this account helps you avoid connecting the wrong profile by mistake.
Troubleshooting & Pitfalls
Issue: “LinkedIn cookie missing” error
What you’ll see: A “LinkedIn cookie missing” error.
Root cause: The extension relies on your browser cookies to recognize your current LinkedIn session. This can break after logging out of LinkedIn or lemlist, switching browser profiles, or clearing cookies.
Fix:
Log back into LinkedIn and lemlist in the same Chrome profile.
Open LinkedIn, launch the extension, and click Refresh profile if needed.
Link the account again if the connection was reset.
Prevention: Avoid clearing cookies or logging out while actively using the extension. If you do, reconnect the extension right after.
Issue: The extension is installed but not showing on LinkedIn
What you’ll see: You installed the extension, but you don’t see the lemlist sidebar or launcher on LinkedIn.
Root cause: The page may need to be refreshed after installation, or Chrome may not have loaded the extension into the current tab yet.
Fix:
Refresh your LinkedIn page.
Make sure you’re on a supported LinkedIn page.
Close and reopen LinkedIn in the same Chrome browser where you installed the extension.
Issue: The wrong LinkedIn account appears in the extension
What you’ll see: The extension detects a different LinkedIn profile than the one you expected.
Root cause: You may be logged into a different LinkedIn account in that browser session, or Chrome may still be using an older active session.
Fix:
Confirm which LinkedIn account is currently open in your browser.
In the extension sidebar, click Refresh profile.
If needed, log out of the wrong LinkedIn account, log into the correct one, and reopen the extension.
Issue: The extension installed correctly, but the account is not linked
What you’ll see: The welcome screen completed successfully, but the extension still is not connected to LinkedIn.
Root cause: Installation and account linking are two separate steps. Adding the extension to Chrome does not automatically connect your LinkedIn profile.
Fix:
Open LinkedIn.
Launch the extension from the right-side lemlist icon.
Check the detected profile, then click Link this account.
Issue: You cleared cookies and now need to reconnect
What you’ll see: The extension no longer recognizes your previous setup.
Root cause: Clearing browser cookies can remove the session data the extension uses to keep the connection active.
Fix:
Log back into both LinkedIn and lemlist.
Open the extension on LinkedIn.
Use Refresh profile and link the account again if necessary.
