How to enrich leads during and after import

Step-by-step guide to enriching lead data during CSV import, from within a campaign, and from Contacts — including how to re-enrich existing records.

Use these workflows to enrich lead data at any stage — during CSV import, after a campaign is created, or directly from your Contacts database.


Phase 1: Create a campaign and open the lead list

Go to Campaigns, then click Create campaign to start, or open an existing campaign if you already have one.

Phase 2: Import leads (CSV) and enrich during import

Step 1: Start the import

Inside your campaign, open the Leads list tab and click Import new leads.

Step 2: Choose CSV import

In the import options, select CSV import.

Drag and drop your file, or click the upload area to add your CSV.

Step 4: Review imported fields

Check the detected field mappings before continuing. lemlist will show each CSV column, the mapped lead field, sample values, and overwrite settings.

If a field is mapped incorrectly, click its dropdown to change it. For example, if surname is mapped as a Campaign variable, open the dropdown for that row.

Then select the correct lead field, such as Last name.

Custom personalization fields can stay mapped as Campaign variable when needed, such as an icebreaker column.

Step 5: Choose AI column use cases

On the AI columns step, select any use cases you want to apply to this imported lead list, or leave them off and continue.

Step 6: Select enrichment options and import

On Enrich leads data, choose the enrichments you want to run. lemlist shows the credit cost for each option, and Verify existing emails may already be enabled by default. Review the duplicate handling settings, then click Import leads.

Phase 3: Enrich after import from the campaign lead list

After your leads are imported, you can trigger additional enrichment from the campaign itself. Click Enrich leads in the top-right corner, then choose the action you want, such as finding phone numbers, finding verified emails, finding LinkedIn profiles and enriching data, verifying primary emails, using AI, or opening Enrichment stats.

Viewing detailed enrichment insights

To review deliverability and enrichment performance, open Enrichment stats. You’ll see overall deliverability plus enrichment progress for email addresses, phone numbers, LinkedIn profiles, and email verification.

Phase 4: Enrich or re-enrich from Contacts

Use this workflow to enrich your database without pushing contacts into a campaign first, or to update records that were already enriched.

Step 1: Select contacts and open Enrichment

Go to Contacts, select the contacts you want, then click Enrichment.

Choose the enrichment you need, such as finding phone numbers, finding verified emails, finding LinkedIn profiles and enriching data, or verifying primary emails.

Step 3: Confirm and launch enrichment

If lemlist detects that some data already exists, confirm whether you want to search again.

Once enrichment starts, you’ll see a progress notification and can cancel it if needed.

  • Note: Re-enriching already enriched contacts can consume additional credits.


Troubleshooting & pitfalls

Issue: Enrichment didn’t find data (example: phone finder “not found”)

Root cause: Not enough identifying data, or the data isn’t available from providers.

Fix:

  • Double-check name/company fields and company domain.

  • Try a different enrichment type first (for example LinkedIn enrichment before email/phone).

Issue: Email verification shows “Unknown”

Root cause: The email provider didn’t respond to the verification request.

Fix:

  • Treat as uncertain deliverability and consider re-verifying later.

  • For critical sends, validate the domain and address pattern manually.

Issue: Credits were consumed unexpectedly

Root cause: Re-enriching already enriched records or selecting higher-cost enrichments (like phone numbers).

Fix:

  • Choose the option that only searches for missing results when you only want to fill blanks.

  • Review the credit cost in the confirmation step before launching enrichment.

After enrichment, review the results directly in your records. You may see verified email statuses such as Verified: Deliverable and missing values such as No phone found.

Optimization tips

Verify before sending - Always verify (Email Verification or Email Finder & Verifier) before launching cold campaigns to reduce bounces. Focus on verified leads for outreach and ensure to verify addresses that are likely accurate but not previously checked, prioritizing campaign effectiveness over volume.

Enrich strategically - Enrich the leads you’ll actually contact, not your entire database.

Re-enrich stale data - Roles and companies change; re-enrich key segments periodically, but remember it may consume additional credits.
