If leads have already gone through a campaign sequence, you can no longer fully delete a step they may be impacted by. Instead, you can skip the step for all leads. This helps you adjust a live campaign without stopping and duplicating it, while keeping reporting and traceability intact.
When you skip a step, any lead who has not received that step will bypass it and continue to the next planned step. The skipped step stays visible in the campaign, but it becomes read-only and is marked as skipped across the builder and reporting.
How to skip a step
In the campaign builder, open the step menu on the step you want to remove from future delivery, then select Skip this step for all leads. Once leads have already passed through that step, this option replaces the usual delete action.
A confirmation modal will appear showing how many leads are affected. Review the impact, then confirm by clicking Skip for X leads. The modal explains that leads who have not yet received the step will skip it and continue to the next step after the scheduled delay.
Important: Skipping a step is irreversible. Once a step is skipped, it cannot be un-skipped.
What happens after a step is skipped
The skipped step appears greyed out in the sequence builder.
A Skipped label is shown on the step.
You can still view the step’s content and stats, but you can no longer edit it.
The step number stays the same, so step 3 remains step 3.
In the sequence builder, the skipped step is visibly muted and marked with a Skipped badge. Hovering over it also shows who skipped it and when, which helps with traceability.
How lead progression works
After a step is skipped, leads do not lose their place in the campaign. Instead:
The next step is scheduled based on each lead’s last actual activity.
Leads who already completed the skipped step are not changed retroactively.
Leads added to the campaign in the future will also not receive the skipped step.
Any pending manual tasks on the skipped step are marked as skipped.
Reporting and activity tracking
Skipped steps remain visible in reporting so you keep a complete campaign history. A user log is also created for auditability, making it clear that the step was intentionally skipped rather than deleted.
In activity tracking, you can see the step skip event recorded for the lead, which helps explain why a specific step was not sent.
Best practices
Use Skip step when a live step should no longer be sent, but you want to preserve campaign structure and reporting.
Review the impacted lead count carefully before confirming.
Double-check manual-task steps, since pending tasks on that step will be marked as skipped.
Remember that this action is permanent, so confirm only when you are sure the step should never be sent again.
Summary
The Skip step action lets you safely update a live campaign without rebuilding it. It prevents future sends for that step, keeps campaign numbering and reporting intact, logs the action for traceability, and automatically moves affected leads forward in the sequence.
