Learning Objective
By the end of this guide, you'll know how to add a prospect's company logo to personalized images in your emails, customize logo style (square or circular), understand automatic logo detection based on email addresses, and troubleshoot when logos don't appear.
Why This Matters
Adding a prospect's logo to your email images creates instant recognition and relevance. When a recipient sees their company logo in your email, it signals that your message is tailored specifically to them, not a generic blast.
Benefits:
Increases attention – Personalized visuals stand out in crowded inboxes
Builds trust – Shows you've researched the prospect
Boosts engagement – Personalized images drive higher reply rates
Prerequisites
Before adding prospect logos:
You're editing an email step in your campaign sequence
Your leads have business email addresses (not generic Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo)
You understand Custom Images – This feature uses lemlist's Custom Image editor
Core Lesson: Step-by-Step Workflow
Step 1: Start your campaign
Go to Campaigns, then open the campaign where you want to add the logo
Step 2: Open the Sequence
In your campaign, click Sequence to edit the steps
Step 3: Add personalization
In the email step editor toolbar, click Add personalization, then open the Media tab
Step 4: Open the Custom Image editor
From the Media tab, click Create an image
Step 5: Choose or create a template
Create a new custom image or select an existing template, then click Use this template to start editing it
Step 6: Add the prospect's logo
In the Custom Image editor, click Add element
Select Logo from the elements list
The logo element is added to your image canvas.
Step 7: Customize the logo style
On the right-hand side panel, you can adjust the logo's appearance:
Logo shape:
Square – Keeps logo in its original rectangular/square shape
Circular – Rounds the logo into a circle
Choose whichever fits your design best
Step 8: Save and use your image
When you're ready, click Use this image to insert it into your email step
How Automatic Logo Detection Works
lemlist automatically detects and displays the prospect's company logo based on their email domain.
Example:
Lead email:
[email protected]lemlist detects the domain:
acme.comAutomatically fetches Acme Corp's logo
Displays it in your custom image
No manual work required – The logo populates automatically for each prospect.
Important: Logo Limitations
Logos won't display if your lead uses a generic email address:
❌ @gmail.com
❌ @hotmail.com
❌ @yahoo.com
❌ @outlook.com
❌ Other free email providers
Why? Generic email addresses don't have associated company logos. lemlist needs a business domain (e.g., @companyname.com) to fetch the correct logo.
💡 Best practice: Filter out generic email addresses before importing leads, or use logo images only for leads with business emails.
Additional Options
Add a logo to an existing image: You can also add a prospect's logo to an image you've already created in your campaign.
Open the existing custom image
Click Add element → Logo
Position and style the logo as needed
Save and update the image in your sequence
This lets you layer logos onto backgrounds, screenshots, or other personalized elements.
Troubleshooting
Issue: Logo doesn't appear for some leads
Root cause: Lead uses a generic email address (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo)
Fix:
Filter your lead list to exclude generic email addresses
Or design a fallback image without logos for those leads
Focus logo personalization on leads with business emails
Issue: Wrong logo appears
Root cause: Email domain doesn't match the company (e.g., using a parent company domain, or acquired company domain)
Fix:
This is rare, but it can happen with complex corporate structures
Manually verify key leads' email domains match their actual company
Consider using custom image variables with manually sourced logos for VIP leads
Issue: Logo appears blurry or pixelated
Root cause: The source logo from the company's website is low resolution
Fix:
lemlist fetches logos from public sources, quality depends on what's available
For VIP leads, consider using custom image variables with high-quality logos you source manually
Issue: Can't find the "Add element" button
Root cause: Not in the Custom Image editor
Fix:
Ensure you clicked Add personalization and created/opened a custom image first
The Add element button only appears within the Custom Image editor canvas
If still missing, refresh the page and try again
Optimization Tips
Use circular logos for profile-style images: If your design includes a profile or headshot layout, circular logos look more cohesive.
Use square logos for formal layouts: Square logos work better for corporate, formal designs with clean lines.
Position logos strategically: Place logos where they're visible but don't overpower the main message or call-to-action in your image.
Combine with other personalization: Add text elements (company name, prospect name) alongside the logo for maximum personalization impact.
Preview before launching: Always preview your sequence with real lead data to verify logos display correctly before sending to hundreds of prospects.
Filter out generic emails: Before importing leads, remove or tag generic email addresses (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) so you don't send logo images to leads where logos won't work.
Test with multiple domains: Preview with leads from different companies to ensure logo detection works across various domains and industries.
