Learning Objective
By the end of this tutorial, youâll know how to run a DNS health check in lemlist, interpret the SPF/DKIM/DMARC results, and understand what to do if something fails.
Why This Matters
Correct DNS records (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC) help mailbox providers verify your emails are legitimate, which improves deliverability and reduces the chance of landing in spam. Checking DNS health regularly also helps you catch configuration issues before they impact campaign performance.
Prerequisites
You should already know or have:
⢠Access to your lemlist workspace
⢠Access (or admin help) to manage DNS at your domain provider (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, Cloudflare)
Core Lesson â Step-by-Step Workflow
Phase 1: Open the DNS Health checker
1) Click your name in the bottom-left corner, then select Settings to open your account settings. This is where lemlist groups deliverability and account diagnostic tools.
2) In the left menu, select Account health, then open the DNS health tab.
3) In the user selector at the top, click the dropdown to choose which email account you want to check.
4) Select the user/email account you want to run the DNS health check for.
5) Click Refresh checks to force lemlist to re-check your current DNS configuration and show the latest status.
Phase 2: Review and interpret the results
6) Review the DNS health results shown on the page. Pay special attention to the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC checksâthese are key authentication records that directly impact inbox placement.
What âAll goodâ means
If everything looks good and SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are passing, your DNS authentication is set up correctly and you can start sending with more confidence.
Troubleshooting & Pitfalls
Issue: SPF, DKIM, or DMARC shows an error or isnât passing
Root cause: These records are configured at your domain provider (DNS host). The values may be missing, incorrect, duplicated, or not fully propagated yet.
Fix:
⢠Log in to your domain/DNS provider and locate your DNS management area
⢠Compare the required record values with whatâs currently in DNS and correct them
⢠Wait for DNS propagation (it can take time), then return to lemlist and click Refresh checks again
Issue: You canât find where to edit DNS records
Root cause: Your DNS might be hosted somewhere different than your domain registrar (for example, your domain is registered at GoDaddy but DNS is managed in Cloudflare).
Fix:
⢠Ask your IT/admin who hosts DNS for your domain
⢠Contact your providerâs support and request guidance to locate and edit SPF/DKIM/DMARC records
Practical Application / Real-Life Example
Before launching a new campaign (or when switching domains), run the DNS health check and confirm:
⢠SPF passes (authorized senders are defined)
⢠DKIM passes (emails are signed correctly)
⢠DMARC passes (policy and alignment are set)
This helps you avoid deliverability issues after youâve already started sending.
Knowledge Check
⢠Did you run Refresh checks after making any DNS changes?
⢠Are SPF, DKIM, and DMARC all passing?
⢠If something failed, do you know which provider hosts your DNS so you can update the records?
