How to change your plan

Upgrade or downgrade your lemlist plan, adjust seats, and change billing frequency from Plans & Billing.

Learning Objective

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll know how to access Plans & billing, open the correct product’s plan settings, and understand how plan upgrades, downgrades, billing frequency changes, and plan-switching limitations work.

Why This Matters

Changing your plan helps you keep lemlist aligned with your current setup and billing model. Depending on the plan, this can affect either your number of seats or your monthly sending volume, so it’s important to understand what happens before you confirm a change.

Prerequisites

  • You have Admin access to the workspace.

Core Lesson: Step-by-Step Workflow

  1. Go to “Plans & billing”
From your lemlist workspace, click your profile/workspace area in the bottom-left, then select Plans & billing.

Open Plans and billing from the workspace menu

2. Select the product you want to change
In the Billing for page, find the product you want to manage and click Manage plan.

Open the plan management page from Billing for

3. Review the available plans and confirm the change
Choose the plan you want to move to. Depending on the product and plan family, you may be able to change billing frequency, adjust seats, upgrade, or contact Sales for Enterprise.

Choose a new plan and confirm the change

Additional Options (While choosing a plan)

  • Change payment frequency: Choose Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly at the top of the pricing page.

Change the billing frequency from the pricing page

  • Adjust seats: For seat-based plans, use the - and + controls on the plan card before confirming the change.

  • Switching between payment frequencies (Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly) can be done from the pricing page when available.

Billing for Upgrades and Downgrades

  • Email plan availability: The new Email plan is available only for new customers.

  • Email plan billing model: The Email plan is not billed by paid seat. It is billed based on the team’s total number of emails sent per month. This sending limit includes emails sent from campaigns, the inbox, and the contact panel.

  • Upgrading to a higher Email tier: The upgrade takes effect immediately. You get access to the higher monthly sending limit right away. You are charged the full amount of the new tier minus the prorated unused amount from your current tier, and your billing anniversary changes. If you had already used part of your monthly sending limit, the counter resets to 0 / new limit.

  • Downgrading to a lower Email tier: The downgrade takes effect only at the end of the current billing period. No prorated refund or adjustment is applied during the current cycle.

  • Switching between plan families: You can't upgrade or downgrade directly between Multichannel Expert and Email plans from the same team — that's why the button is greyed out. The same restriction applies to legacy plans such as Outreach Scale, Email Starter, and similar older plans. There are two ways to handle this: Option 1 – New team (recommended): We create a new team on the plan you want and migrate your email campaigns. You'd need to manually move over contacts, companies, and unsubscribed lists. Option 2 – Stay on current team: We escalate to Finance and they handle the switch — applying a credit for unused time and adjusting billing accordingly. If the credit doesn't cover the full amount, the difference is charged to your payment method. Whichever option you choose, the new plan starts a fresh 30-day billing cycle immediately — unused days on the current plan don't carry over.

Plan family switch limitation requiring a new team

  • What’s included in the new Email plan: The new Email plan includes the features from Email Pro, except the additional email add-on is not available, since users get unlimited users and senders per user.

  • Lemwarm access: Regardless of the plan, a lemlist seat gives access to lemwarm and warmup options in the team sending settings and deliverability hub.

Troubleshooting & Pitfalls

  • Issue: You can’t see “Plans & billing”
Root cause: You don’t have Admin permissions.
Fix: Ask a workspace Admin to update your role or to make the plan change for you.

  • Issue: The plan change button is unavailable
Root cause: Direct switches between Multichannel Expert and Email plans (or from certain legacy plans) are not available from the same team — the button is intentionally greyed out.
Fix: You have two options: (1) create a new team on the target plan (recommended) or (2) contact support to escalate to Finance, who can handle the switch with a credit applied for unused time. Note that either way, the new plan starts a fresh 30-day billing cycle immediately.

  • Issue: You need Enterprise
Root cause: Enterprise is handled via Sales.
Fix: Click Contact sales on the Enterprise card and follow the prompts.

  • Issue: You want to lower your Email sending limit immediately
Root cause: Email tier downgrades do not apply mid-cycle.
Fix: The lower tier will apply at the end of your current billing period.
