Add people in Cc for campaigns

Guide to using the 'Cc:' feature for personalized email campaigns and better engagement.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Adding recipients to the CC field lets you keep teammates in the loop, collaborate on outreach, and include additional stakeholders in the same email thread.

Learning objective

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll know how to add CC recipients to a specific email step in a lemlist campaign and review/edit CC values per lead before launching.

Why this matters

CC helps you coordinate outreach without forwarding threads manually. It’s also useful when you want visibility from a manager, AE, or teammate on specific conversations, while still keeping control at the campaign and lead level.

Prerequisites

  • You should already have access to the campaign you want to edit.

  • You should already understand that CC recipients are applied per email step (and can be reviewed/edited per lead before launch).

Core lesson: Step-by-step workflow

Phase 1: Navigate to the right campaign step

  1. Go to Campaigns, then open the campaign you want to edit.

  2. Select the Sequence tab to access your steps.

Phase 2: Add CC recipients to an email step

  1. Select the email step you want to edit, then use Add CC to reveal the CC field and enter one or more recipients

  1. Type the email address or insert a variable. When added, recipients appear as tokens in the field.

Phase 3: Review CC values before launching (per lead)

  • View Emails: Check all emails and confirm what appears in Cc: before launching.

  • Warnings: Orange alerts appear if a variable used in CC is empty (for example, if a lead is missing data for that variable).

  • Personalize: Edit, add, or delete CC recipients for each individual lead.

Practical application / real-life examples

Example 1: Keep an AE or manager in the loop on replies

If an SDR is running outbound, they can add an AE/manager in CC on key steps (e.g., pricing or meeting-setting emails) so the right people see replies in real time.

Example 2: Add colleagues for stakeholder-driven outreach

When targeting accounts with multiple decision-makers, you can include a colleague in CC to coordinate internal follow-up and keep context in one thread.

Example 3: Preload Cc with variables via API

Ops teams can preload lead-level variables (used in the CC field) so Cc recipients are set automatically at scale, then reviewed per lead before launch.

Troubleshooting & pitfalls

Issue: Orange warning about missing variables

  • Root cause: A variable used in the CC field is empty for one or more leads.

  • Fix: Open the lead in the Launch section, add the missing variable value (or remove the variable from CC), then re-check the email preview.

Issue: CC is not applied to every email in the campaign

  • Root cause: CC is configured per email step, not globally for the entire campaign.

  • Fix: Repeat the CC setup for each email step where you want recipients included.

Issue: The wrong person is CC’d for a specific lead

  • Root cause: The lead’s CC was edited (or a variable resolved differently) at launch time.

  • Fix: In the Launch flow, use Personalize to correct the CC for that lead before sending.
