Call quality: tips and settings

Learn how to enable the best audio quality in lemlist and apply practical tips to ensure your calls sound clear and professional.

Updated today

First impressions matter on a call. Poor sound quality can lead to miscommunication and missed opportunities, while a crisp, reliable connection builds trust and makes conversations easier to follow. lemlist’s 'Call from your phone' option connects your call through your mobile phone for clearer sound, and a few simple best practices help you consistently deliver high-quality conversations. Knowing when and how to enable this feature saves you time and credits and ensures your most important calls are always heard.

Prerequisites

Before you begin:

  • Have a connected or purchased phone number in lemlist and know how to place calls (see Set up In-App Calling and Call Leads with In-App Calling).

  • Have your personal phone number ready; when enabled, lemlist transfers outbound calls to that number first to improve call quality.

  • Have some calling credits; this option consumes twice the credits per minute compared to standard calls.

Core Lesson – Step-by-Step Workflow

Phase 1: Enable “Call from your phone”

  1. Open your settings. From the bottom-left corner, click your profile name, then select Settings.

  2. Go to Sending settings and enable the feature. In Settings, open Sending settings, then scroll to Call from my phone to improve call quality. Turn on Call on the specified number and add the phone number you want lemlist to call first.

  3. Place your call. Start your call as usual. lemlist will call your phone first, and once you answer, it will connect the prospect. Keep in mind that this option uses twice as many credits per minute, so reserve it for conversations where call quality matters most.

Phase 2: Prepare for a High-Quality Call

  1. Choose a quiet environment. Background noise can distract both you and your prospect. Find a calm space, close the door, and silence notifications on your computer and phone.

  2. Use reliable equipment. A wired headset or high-quality microphone reduces echo and provides consistent audio. Wireless headsets can introduce lag or connectivity issues, especially if the battery is low.

  3. Make sure your phone is reachable. Since lemlist calls your phone first, keep it nearby, make sure it has signal, and disable Do Not Disturb if needed.

Phase 3: Optimize During the Call

  1. Monitor call controls. Use the Mute button when you need to avoid transmitting background noise. If you enabled call recording, the Pause recording control lets you pause and resume the recording when discussing sensitive information.

  2. Watch for lag or echo. If you notice echo or lag, ask your prospect to check their speaker or microphone, and consider disabling the feature for future calls if your mobile connection is unstable.

  3. Take real-time notes. Use the notes field in the dialer to jot down key points; focusing on your notes reduces the temptation to talk over the prospect, which can improve perceived call quality.

Phase 4: Review and Adjust After the Call

  1. Listen to the call recording. After the call, navigate to Calls in the main menu and select the call from your history. Listen to the recording to evaluate audio clarity and identify any muffled sections.

  2. Read the transcript and AI summary. Review the transcript to spot places where the audio might have cut out or created misunderstandings. Use the AI summary to quickly recap the conversation and ensure you captured all important points.

  3. Adjust your setup as needed. If you hear issues like inconsistent volume or background noise, tweak your phone setup, headset, or environment for future calls. If the experience was flawless, you'll know when to use this option again.

Practical Application – Example Scenario

You have an important discovery call with a high-value prospect. You want to make sure nothing interrupts the conversation.

  1. Enable “Call from your phone” from Settings > Sending settings and add your phone number.

  2. Find a quiet room and connect your wired headset. You also keep your mobile phone beside you so you can answer as soon as lemlist calls.

  3. Place the call. lemlist calls your phone first; you answer, then it dials your prospect. The conversation flows smoothly without any noticeable delays or distortions.

  4. After the call, you listen to the recording and skim the transcript to confirm that both voices were captured clearly. You feel confident using this option for future high-stakes calls and share these best practices with your team.

Troubleshooting & Pitfalls

Issue: “Call from your phone” toggle is missing.

Fix: Go to Settings > Sending settings and check whether the Call from my phone to improve call quality section is available. If it is not, the feature may not be available on your plan or may be disabled for your workspace. Check with your workspace admin or contact support.

Issue: lemlist doesn’t call your phone first.

Fix: Make sure you enabled Call on the specified number in Sending settings, entered the correct phone number, and have mobile service. If your phone is on Do Not Disturb, the call may not connect.

Issue: Call quality is still poor.

FIx: If you experience static or dropouts even with this option enabled, there may be a problem with your cellular connection. Try another location or disable the feature for future calls. Also verify that your headset or microphone is functioning properly.

Issue: High credit usage.

Fix: This option consumes two credits per minute. Monitor your minutes and use it only for important calls; otherwise, stick with standard in-app calling.
