Learning Objective
By the end of this tutorial, you’ll know how to create a multichannel outreach campaign in lemlist, add LinkedIn steps to your sequence, import leads, configure scheduling, and launch your campaign.
Why This Matters
Multichannel outreach helps you reach prospects where they’re most responsive (email, LinkedIn, and manual actions), multiplying your touchpoints without creating separate campaigns. This typically improves engagement and replies because prospects see your name across more than one channel and context.
Additional LinkedIn features such as voice messages and AI-generated voice notes can further enhance the effectiveness of your outreach by providing personalized and engaging touchpoints.
Prerequisites
You should already have access to a plan that supports multichannel.
You should already have your sending email account connected.
To use LinkedIn steps, install the lemlist LinkedIn Chrome Extension.
Users who wish to utilize LinkedIn automation and multichannel outreach must have access to the Multichannel Expert plan, as these features are not available in the Email Pro plan.
Core Lesson: Step-by-Step Workflow
Phase 1: Create your campaign and start your sequence
Create a new campaign
From your lemlist dashboard, go to Campaigns and click Create campaign. This creates the workspace where you’ll build your sequence before adding leads.
Choose how to create your campaign
Select Create manual campaign to build your sequence step-by-step.
Select your first channel (your first step)
In the sequence builder, click Add step and choose the channel you want for the first touch. For example, you can start with Email.
If you want to begin with a lighter LinkedIn action, click Add step again and select Visit profile. Starting with a profile visit can warm up the prospect before an invite or message.
Note: LinkedIn steps, including profile visits and connection requests, require access to the Multichannel Expert plan.
Phase 2: Build a multichannel sequence (LinkedIn + manual touchpoints)
Add delays between steps
Use delays to keep your outreach natural and avoid stacking multiple actions at once. For example, you can add a Wait for 1 day step between an email and the next LinkedIn action, then adjust the delay length as needed.
A/B test a step (optional but recommended)
Test different copy, timing, or channels to find what performs best for your audience. To A/B test an individual step, open the ... menu on that step and select A/B test this step.
You can also A/B test an entire sequence if needed.
Phase 3: Add leads and configure campaign sending rules
Import your leads
Go to the Leads list tab and click Import new leads, then choose your import method (CSV, People database, CRM, etc.). This is how you connect your sequence to the audience you’ll reach out to.
Set your schedule and options
Click the Settings (gear) icon, open Schedules & launch, then select or edit the schedule you want your campaign to run on, including days, time windows, and timezone. Scheduling helps you send at appropriate times and control pacing.
Phase 4: Review and launch
Launch your campaign
Once your sequence, leads, and schedule are ready, review everything in the Launch step, select the leads you want to include, and click Launch for X leads. This starts running your multichannel steps according to your delays and schedule.
Practical Application / Real-Life Example
Here’s a simple multichannel sequence you can replicate:
Step 1: Email
Step 2: Wait 1 day
Step 3: LinkedIn Visit profile
Step 4: Wait 1 day
Step 5: LinkedIn Connection request with a short personalized note
Step 6: Follow-up message or manual task based on your workflow
If you want to improve outcomes quickly, start by A/B testing one variable at a time, for example: the invite note vs. no note, or a 1-day delay vs. a 2-day delay.
Troubleshooting & Pitfalls
Issue: LinkedIn steps don’t run
Root cause: The LinkedIn Chrome Extension isn’t installed or isn’t connected.
Fix: Install/enable the LinkedIn Chrome Extension, then retry launching.
Issue: Your sequence feels too aggressive (low acceptance / low replies)
Root cause: Steps are too close together or too “salesy” too early.
Fix: Add more delay between steps and lead with lighter actions, such as a profile visit or a short invite note, before longer messages.
Issue: Leads were added but the campaign won’t launch as expected
Root cause: Schedule/timezone or launch settings aren’t configured correctly.
Fix: Recheck your schedule, then try launching again.
