How to remove seats from your plan

Remove seats from your lemlist or lemwarm plan in Plans & Billing. Learn how prorated credits work and the correct downgrade order to avoid unexpected charges.

TL;DR

To remove seats from your lemlist subscription, go to Settings, open Plans & billing, click Manage on your current plan, adjust the number of seats, and click Update. You no longer need to downgrade lemwarm first — it will be downgraded automatically. Seat downgrades apply at the end of the current billing period, while Email tier upgrades take effect immediately. Takes 2 minutes.

Who Should Use This

  • Team admins reducing the number of paid seats

  • Businesses scaling down their outreach setup

  • Customers who want to update their lemlist subscription without changing teams

  • Anyone reviewing billing impact before changing seat count or Email tier limits

Why This Matters

The billing flow has changed. You no longer need to manually downgrade lemwarm before reducing lemlist seats.

Now, you can update your lemlist seat count directly from Plans & billing, and any linked lemwarm seat downgrade will be handled automatically. It is still important to understand that seat downgrades, Email tier downgrades, and Email tier upgrades do not follow the same billing logic.

How to Remove Seats from lemlist

  1. Click your name in the bottom-left corner, then select Settings.

Open the profile menu and select Settings

  2. Open Plans & billing from the left sidebar, then click Manage in the Subscription section.

Open Plans and billing and click Manage in the Subscription section

  3. Enter the new number of seats and click Update.

Change the number of seats and click Update

Understanding Billing Logic

Seat downgrades: When you remove seats lemlist, the change takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No pro-rata refund is issued. You keep access to the current seat allocation until renewal.

Email tier upgrades: If you upgrade to a higher Email tier, the change takes effect immediately so you can use the higher sending limit right away. You are charged the full amount of the new tier minus the pro-rata value of the unused days from the previous tier. Your billing anniversary date resets to the day the upgrade is processed, and your sending limit counter resets to 0 / new limit even if part of the previous limit was already used.

Email tier downgrades: If you downgrade to a lower Email tier, the change takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No pro-rata calculation or partial refund is applied, and you keep access to your current tier until the cycle ends.

Restrictions and Special Cases

Linked lemwarm downgrades are not automatic: You need to downgrade lemwarm separately before reducing lemlist seats, or else you'll be billed for lemwarm seats additionally.

Cross-grades require a workaround: Direct upgrades or downgrades between Multichannel and Email plans are not available — the button will be greyed out. There are two options:

  • Option 1 – New team (recommended): We create a new team on the plan you want and migrate your email campaigns. You'd need to manually move over contacts, companies, and unsubscribed lists.

  • Option 2 – Stay on current team: Contact support to escalate to Finance. They'll handle the switch — applying a credit for unused time and adjusting billing accordingly. If the credit doesn't cover the full amount, the difference is charged to your payment method. Whichever option you choose, the new plan starts a fresh 30-day billing cycle immediately — unused days don't carry over.

Legacy plans are also restricted: Legacy offers such as Outreach Scale, Email Starter, and similar older plans cannot switch tiers directly. The same two options apply: create a new team (recommended), or contact support to have Finance handle the switch with a billing credit.

Always verify your subscription type (monthly, quarterly, or yearly) before making changes so you understand when updates will apply.
