Learning Objective
By the end of this guide, you'll know how to search for specific leads in your campaigns and edit lead information using two different methods.
Why This Matters
Quick lead search and editing is essential for maintaining accurate data. When a lead changes jobs, updates their email, or you need to fix a typo before launch, being able to find and update information instantly prevents sending to wrong contacts or broken personalization.
Prerequisites
Before you start:
A campaign with leads imported
Understanding of which lead information you need to find or update
Edit permissions for the campaign
Step-by-Step Guide
Phase 1: Search for a Lead
Step 1: Open your campaign
Go to Campaigns, then click the campaign that contains the lead you want to find.
Step 2: Open the Lead list and use the search bar
In the campaign, click Lead list, then click into the search bar at the top of the list.
Step 3: Search by keyword
Type a keyword related to the lead:
First name: Type the lead's first name
Last name: Type the lead's last name
Company name: Type their company
Email: Type their email address
The system displays matching results as you type.
✅ Success indicator: The lead list filters to show only matching results. Clear the search to see the full list again.
Phase 2: Edit Lead Information
Once you've found your lead, you can update their information using two methods:
Method 1: Edit Directly in Lead List
Step 1: Locate the field to edit
In the Lead list view, find the column you want to update (e.g., firstName, companyName, email, jobTitle).
Scroll horizontally if the column isn't immediately visible.
Step 2: Click the field
Click directly on the field you want to edit.
Step 3: Update the information
To add or change: Type the new information.
To delete: Click the field and press Backspace (Windows) or Delete (Mac) to remove content.
Changes save automatically when you click outside the field (or finish editing, depending on the field).
💡 Quick editing: This method is fastest when updating multiple leads in the same column (e.g., fixing company names across several leads).
✅ Verify: Confirm the field shows your updated value in the Lead list.
Method 2: Edit Through Lead Card
Step 1: Open the lead's card and edit a field
Click the lead’s name in the Lead list to open their lead card, then scroll to the field you want to update (for example, Job title) and edit the value. Changes save automatically.
💡 When to use lead card: Best for updating multiple fields on a single lead at once, or when you want to see all lead information in one view.
✅ Success indicator: Updated information appears in both the lead card and the Lead list view.
When to Use Each Method
Use direct editing in Lead List when:
Updating the same field across multiple leads
Quick single-field corrections
You can see the field in your current list view
Bulk editing similar information
Use lead card editing when:
Updating multiple fields for one lead
Need to see all lead information at once
Reviewing full lead details while editing
The field isn't visible in the current list view
Common Edits and Use Cases
Fix typos before launch: Search for the lead with incorrect spelling, then edit firstName or companyName directly in the Lead list.
Update job changes: Lead changed companies. Open their lead card, update companyName and jobTitle together.
Add missing information: Lead imported without firstName. Search by email, then add first name for personalization.
Remove outdated data: Company rebranded. Search by old company name, then update to the new name across all matching leads.
Troubleshooting
Issue: Can't find the lead in the search
Root cause: Typo in search term or lead in a different campaign
Fix: Double-check spelling. Verify you're in the correct campaign. Try searching by email instead of name. Confirm the lead was imported by reviewing the lead list.
Issue: Field not editable when clicked
Root cause: Read-only field (system-generated data), or insufficient permissions
Fix: Some fields (like system statuses/timestamps) can’t be edited. Verify you have edit permissions for the campaign, then refresh the page and try again.
Issue: Edits not saving
Root cause: Network connection issue or the page needs to be refreshed
Fix: Check your internet connection. Refresh the page and try editing again. If the problem persists, try another browser.
Issue: Search showing too many results
Root cause: Search term too generic (e.g., "John" matches many leads)
Fix: Be more specific, add last name. Use the email address for an exact match.
Issue: Changed the field, but the old data still shows
Root cause: Page not refreshed, or you’re viewing a cached state
Fix: Refresh the page. If the issue persists, verify the saved value by opening the lead card.
Issue: Deleted information by accident
Root cause: Clicked a field and removed content unintentionally
Fix: Immediately undo (Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z). If it’s already saved, re-enter the information manually.
Optimization Tips
Search before bulk actions - Before pausing, skipping, or deleting leads, search to isolate the specific leads you want to affect. Prevents accidental actions on the wrong leads.
Use consistent naming - When editing company names or titles, use consistent capitalization and formatting. Makes future searches more reliable.
Edit before launch - Review and fix lead data issues before launching campaigns. Easier to edit in Lead List than to fix after emails are sent with wrong personalization.
Export before major edits - If making significant changes to many leads, export the campaign first as backup. Provides rollback option if needed.
Make columns visible - If frequently editing certain variables, ensure those columns are visible in your Lead list view for faster direct editing.
Batch similar edits - When fixing the same issue across multiple leads (e.g., company name format), search for all affected leads at once, then edit directly in list view.
Verify after editing - After editing critical fields like email addresses, do a quick spot-check by searching for updated leads to confirm changes applied correctly.
