Master lead enrichment in lemlist (import, enrich, re-enrich, and track results)
Use lemlist enrichment to complete missing data (emails, phone numbers, LinkedIn profiles) and verify deliverability so your outreach stays effective and your sending reputation stays safe.
Learning Objective
By the end of this guide, you'll know how to use lemlist's enrichment options (Email Finder & Verifier, LinkedIn Enrichment, Email Verification, Phone Number Finder), understand credit costs, apply enrichment during import or after, re-enrich existing records, and interpret enrichment results.
Why This Matters
Complete, verified lead data is essential for successful outreach. Missing emails means you canât contact prospects, and invalid emails cause bounces that damage your sender reputation. Enrichment fills these gaps automatically (finding emails, verifying deliverability, extracting LinkedIn data, and locating phone numbers) so you can focus on outreach rather than manual research.
Prerequisites
Before you start:
Leads ready to import (for example via CSV)
Available enrichment credits in your account
A clear idea of which enrichment types you need for your workflow
Enrichment options & credit costs
lemlist offers four enrichment tools:
1. Email Finder & Verifier
Finds professional email addresses
Verifies email deliverability (debounce)
Cost: 5 credits per lead
Charge: Only for deliverable or risky emails found
2. LinkedIn Enrichment
Extracts data from LinkedIn profiles
Can find a LinkedIn profile if missing (when enough identifying data exists)
Cost: 1 credit per lead
3. Email Verification (Debounce)
Verifies existing email addresses
Checks deliverability without sending messages
Cost: 1 credit per lead
Use: When you already have emails but need to verify validity
4. Phone Number Finder
Locates phone numbers for leads
Cost: 20 credits per lead
Charge: Only when the phone number is successfully found
Understanding email verification statuses
When emails are verified (via Email Finder & Verifier or Email Verification), lemlist assigns a deliverability status:
Deliverable:
Email address exists and is confirmed by the recipient's email provider
Safe to send messages
Risky:
Email may result in bounce or low engagement
Common subtypes include Accept All, Full Mailbox, and Disposable
Undeliverable:
Email address doesnât exist or is syntactically incorrect
Will bounce if you attempt to send
Unknown:
No response received from the email provider
Status remains uncertain; consider re-verifying later
Why verification matters: High bounce rates damage your email reputation. Verification helps prevent bounces so your future emails are less likely to be filtered to spam.
Core lesson â Step-by-step workflow
Phase 1: Create a campaign and open the lead list
Go to Campaigns, then click Create campaign to start (or open an existing campaign). This gets you to the campaign workspace where you can import and enrich leads.
Phase 2: Import leads (CSV) and enrich during import
Step 1: Start the import
In your campaign, open the Lead list and click Import new leads.
Step 2: Choose CSV import
In the import options, select CSV import.
Step 3: Upload your CSV
Drag and drop your file (or click to upload) in the Upload a CSV area.
Step 4: Continue after upload
Once the file is uploaded, click Continue.
Step 5: Review imported variables
Check the detected variables and mappings, then click Continue. This ensures lemlist can use the right columns for enrichment.
Step 6: (Optional) Choose AI column use cases
If prompted, select any AI column use cases you want (or skip), then click Continue.
Step 7: Select enrichment options and import
On Enrich leads data, toggle the enrichments you want (for example Find verified emails), then click Import leads. lemlist will show the credit cost for each enrichment type so you can confirm before spending credits.
Phase 3: Track enrichment results
After import, youâll see your leads in the campaign lead list. Use indicators like the star tooltip to quickly understand whether enrichment succeeded and the deliverability result (for example âVerified: deliverableâ).
Phase 4: Enrich after import (campaign leads)
Step 1: Open enrichment actions
From your campaign lead list, click Enrich leads to open enrichment actions for the leads in that campaign.
Step 2: Choose an enrichment action
Select what you want to enrich (LinkedIn profiles, phone numbers, verify emails, or use AI).
Viewing detailed enrichment insights
To review deliverability and enrichment performance, open Enrichment stats.
Re-enrich leads or contacts (update outdated info)
If you need to re-enrich contacts or leads that were already enriched (for example, to update outdated information):
1. Select the contacts/leads to re-enrich
2. Click Enrichment
3. In the confirmation modal, choose whether to Search all (re-check everyone, including contacts that already have data) or Only search for the ones not already found (skip contacts that already have results for that enrichment type), then confirm.
4. Review the credit cost before confirming
Note: Re-enriching already enriched contacts can consume additional credits.
Phase 5: Bulk enrich from the Contacts section
Use this workflow when you want to enrich your database without pushing contacts into a campaign first.
Step 1: Select contacts and open Enrichment
Go to Contacts, select the contacts you want, then click Enrichment.
Step 2: Pick enrichment options
Choose the enrichment you need (find phone numbers, find verified emails, find LinkedIn profiles and enrich data, or verify primary emails).
Configure custom enrichment providers
Some teams can connect their own data provider accounts (Lusha, Apollo) for enrichment:
1. Go to Settings > Integrations
2. Connect your Lusha or Apollo account with your API credentials
3. When enriching, lemlist will use your custom provider credentials preferentially
Credit billing for enrichment
Credits used for enrichment are charged to the user who performed the action. This applies when:
Importing contacts from CRM contact lists
Enriching via CRM extension
Performing enrichment actions in lemlist
Practical application (recommended workflow)
For a typical outbound campaign, a cost-efficient sequence is:
First: Run LinkedIn Enrichment (low cost) to fill job titles and company info.
Then: Run Email Finder & Verifier for contacts youâll actually message.
Finally: Use Phone Number Finder only for high-value targets where a call is worth the credit cost.
Troubleshooting & pitfalls
Issue: Enrichment didnât find data (example: phone finder ânot foundâ)
Root cause: Not enough identifying data, or the data isnât available from providers.
Fix:
Double-check name/company fields and company domain.
Try a different enrichment type first (for example LinkedIn enrichment before email/phone).
Issue: Email verification shows âUnknownâ
Root cause: The email provider didnât respond to the verification request.
Fix:
Treat as uncertain deliverability and consider re-verifying later.
For critical sends, validate the domain and address pattern manually.
Issue: Credits were consumed unexpectedly
Root cause: Re-enriching already enriched records or selecting higher-cost enrichments (like phone numbers).
Fix:
Choose the option that only searches for missing results when you only want to fill blanks.
Review the credit cost in the confirmation step before launching enrichment.
Optimization tips
Verify before sending - Always verify (Email Verification or Email Finder & Verifier) before launching cold campaigns to reduce bounces.
Enrich strategically - Enrich the leads youâll actually contact, not your entire database.
Re-enrich stale data - Roles and companies change; re-enrich key segments periodically, but remember it may consume additional credits.
